California State University REC Solar, Aecom complete 1.16MW PV Array
US cleantech company REC Solar and builders Aecom have completed installation of a 1.16MW photovoltaic (PV) system for the California State University’s Fullerton (CSUF) Campus.
The array will provide electricity to six Coulomb electric vehicle (EV) charging systems provided by Charge Harbour, allowing EV drivers to replenish their car’s batteries using the power of the sun.
This new facility is part of an agreement, signed in 2008, that will see 16 California State sites host 20MW of solar panels.
Willie Hagan, interim president of California State University, Fullerton, said, ‘California’s continued economic, environmental and social prosperity depends on sustainable energy and technology. With today’s celebratory completion of the California State University, Fullerton installation, we are demonstrating our commitment to derive more of our energy from renewable sources. A fiscally responsible endeavor, CSUF is saving energy and reducing costs, while setting the bar for other universities to aspire to.’
Burke Kascha-Hare, director of Federal Business Development for REC Solar, added, ‘State facilities are in a unique and challenging position because they face state and federal mandates for renewable energy. We are pleased to be instrumental in helping CSU Fullerton meet its aggressive renewable energy goals.’ posted on Jan 16, 2012
